DALLAS
Kids will love watching a lively musical performance, starring the Kathy Burks Theatre of Puppetry Arts, of the classic fairy tale Hansel and Gretel (following the journey of two children who encounter a mysterious old woman living in a house made out of candy). 7:30pm Friday; 1:30 and 4:30pm Saturday-Sunday (through Mar 21). Tickets start at $16.

FORT WORTH
Take a 25-minute ride with Thomas the Tank Engine and meet Sir Topham Hatt, the Controller of the Railway at A Day Out With Thomas, 9am-5:20pm Thursday-Sunday (through Mar 14) at the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. The event includes storytelling, a viewing station for Thomas & Friends videos, temporary tattoos and an Imagination Station. $18 Sat-Sun; $16 Fri; $14 for groups of 20 or more; kids 2 and younger free.

NORTH TEXAS
Kids ages 6-10 can take a lesson in Mandarin Chinese from a 9-year-old, Jia-Jia Zhang, who knows how to make learning a foreign language fun at Basic Mandarin For Kids, 5-5:30pm today at Denton's North Branch Library. Free.
